A long-term romance is something like an adventure on a river.  A bit fast and furious at the beginning.  Periods of turbulence and calm.  Snags along the course.  Slowing farther downstream, but with opportunities to appreciate where you've been, where you are, where you're going, more aware of the minutia and the Big Picture, and, above all, the enjoyment of the fluidity and constance.
